Academy Hero Initiative Launched

On Friday May 31, the Sydney Roosters Foundation launched the Academy Hero initiative at a gala event presented by Paspaley.

The event took place at the stunning Ivy Ballroom in the Sydney CBD, where guests gathered to hear about the Academy Hero initiative and pledge their support to the next generation of Sydney Roosters stars.

The Sydney Roosters Foundation launch the Academy Hero Initiative

The Sydney Roosters Academy was established in 2022 through the vision and foresight of Chairman Nick Politis and the Board of Directors.

As a Foundation Club, but with a limited junior base, the Sydney Roosters have always had a need to recruit outstanding junior talent to the Club in order to develop their talent into flourishing young NRL players.

Inspired by a visit to the world-renowned La Masia Academy of FC Barcelona, the Sydney Roosters have built an Academy without peer in Australian sport when it comes to support, welfare, education and performance.

A unique aspect of the Sydney Roosters Academy is that it has been built, and continues to operate, entirely on the back of generous donations from the Sydney Roosters community, and the Academy Hero initiative is designed to secure the future of the Academy.

You have to show up, you have to perform, you have to wear our jersey with pride. Underpinning all that, we will do everything we can to look after you and get you to where you need to go.

Head Coach Trent Robinson said on the night that it has been incredible to watch these players progress from coming in as kids to performing at the NRL level so quickly.

“Accelerating the impact that they can have in the NRL is directly through the Academy and the coaching they receive.’’ Robinson said.

Head of Sydney Roosters Academy, Mitchell Aubusson, said the Academy is complementing hard work with support to assist the players to achieve their goals.

“You have to show up, you have to perform, you have to wear our jersey with pride. Underpinning all that, we will do everything we can to look after you and get you to where you need to go,’’ he said.

Former Roosters Captain, Jake Friend, is now the Academy Head Coach - a role he sees as integral to the future success of the Club.

"There is a bit of history there that shows you when a group comes through together, it leads to the ultimate success at the top level. The Academy is going to ensure that we are successful for a long period of time.’’ Friend added.

Thirty one individuals have committed their support to the Academy Hero initiative, helping to secure the future of the Sydney Roosters Academy and ensuring they have played their part in the progression of our next generation of stars.

We look forward to honouring this group and keeping them informed on the work of the Academy and the progress of our Academy players.
