Sonny Bill Williams has tonight been named winner of the prestigious Jack Gibson Medal at the Sydney Roosters 2013 Awards Night.


The award, for the Player of the Year, was presented to Williams by Roosters Chairman Nick Politis and John Gibson, son of the late Jack Gibson.


Sydney Roosters Captain Anthony Minichiello won the James Mathews Award for Clubman of the Year, recognising the extensive work he has done both on and off the field as the leader of the Sydney Roosters playing group.


The Club veteran also took home the Steggles Play of the Year award, voted by Roosters Members, for his try-saving tackle on Nathan Merritt in the Roosters Round 26 win against arch-rivals South Sydney.


Jared Waerea-Hargreaves was the recipient of the Roosters Our Community Award for the extensive work he has done in the community, including as an ambassador of the Steggles Roosters Charity Nests Charity of Choice the Royal Institute for Deaf and Blind Children. Waerea-Hargreaves was also the clubs nomination for the NRLs One Community Ken Stephens Medal.


Other winners on the night were Daniel Tupou who won the Harry Phipps Rising Star Award, Samisoni Langi who won the Arthur Beetson Medal for NYC Player of the Year, Willis Meehan who won the Chris Sykes Award for Junior Rep Player of the Year and Alex Thomas for NYC Players Player.

The night was attended by more than 340 guests and was staged in the Bondi Room of Easts Leagues Club.
