A slow start has again seen the boys fall short in their opening match of the day at the Auckland Nines, with a 16-4 loss to the Bulldogs seeing the side knocked out of the tournament.

Day One hero Brad Fittler and Co-Captain Mitchell Pearce were both left out of Trent Robinson's side for the clash, seeing the next generation of Tricolours try their hand at leading the way.

Lack of possession early on combined with a string of consecutive penalties allowed the Bulldogs to cross in the third minute through Josh Jackson and just four minutes later again through O'Hanlon.

It was a case of deja vu in the second half with the Dogs crossing just sixty seconds after the break, then again just five minutes later with O'Hanlon crossing for his second following a string of mistakes from the Tricolours.

With a lack of direction the boys from the East suffered under the summer sun, however finished the game with a four-pointer to Fijian flyer Paul Rokolati in the dying stages.
