The Sydney Roosters are honoured to have our Under 18s SG Ball side represent Australia at the exhibition event prior to the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
The Under 18s rugby league competition is the pathway for future stars of the game, and the Sydney Roosters have won three SG Ball premierships in seven seasons, including this year’s title.
The Sydney Roosters SG Ball side were an attacking powerhouse throughout the 2014 season.
With the likes of Johnny Tuivasa-Sheck, Paul Momirovski and Chevy Ellis out wide, Travis Edwards and Grant Garvey directing the team around the park and the attacking genius of Latrell Mitchell at fullback, scoring points was never a problem for the side throughout the season.
The Roosters were crowned SG Ball Premiers after scoring a comeback win in a golden point thriller 34-30 against the Penrith Panthers last May.
Roosters x-factor fullback Mitchell was the hero for the Tricolours scoring twice in the final six minutes of this entertaining encounter to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat and thoroughly deserved his man of the match award.
In a game that had everything it was only fitting that this grand finale would have a Hollywood ending and Mitchell would be the hero for the Roosters and the villain for the Panthers.
They say ‘cometh the hour, cometh the man’ and man of the match and of the hour Mitchell did just that cutting back inside off his right foot ten metres out in the 74th minute and getting down low to dive over for his 16th try of the season and next to the posts for the match winner.
