One of the shining lights for the Roosters in recent weeks, back-rower Boyd Cordner continues to shy away from his good form as the club continues to move past the loss of influential prop Jared Waerea-Hargreaves through a season-ending knee injury.
Cordner, who was close to the Roosters' best against Manly where he pulled off some memorable hits, said he's been happy with his form throughout the season and put the recent spotlight on his performances down to his teammates' good form.
"We have won a few on the trot now and my form has been good because the players around me have been playing well too so most of the credit has to go to them for the way I've been playing at the moment," Cordner said.
"I've felt my performances over the whole year have been pretty consistent to tell you the truth. But I suppose lately, because we're winning it gets highlighted a bit more than when you're losing games. I'm happy with where my footy is at.
"I'm not a hitman or anything though. I just get through my work and as long as I'm doing my job for the team and what's required of me then I'm happy. As long as we keep winning that's the main thing.
"I don't think there's any one standout in our forward pack either. It's all of us who have to step up. As a forward pack we need to step up – every single one of us."
Unlike Cordner himself, teammate and prop Sam Moa couldn't speak more highly of the 23-year-old, labelling him "captaincy material".
"I think Boyd had a huge game against Manly and he has an aggressive side to him that not many people get to see. For someone who plays as hard and as tough as he does, he's only 23-years-old and he has a big future in the game," Moa said.
"I think he's captain material down the line because he's one of our leaders. He's a valued member within this group and he brings a toughness that not many people recognise.
"We see how hard he trains and he's only got one level he trains at and that's 100 per cent. He doesn't back down from anyone and on top of that he's a really good bloke, which is a good combination for other young kids to look up to."
Meanwhile Cordner isn't reading much into South Sydney's 37-point loss to the Broncos last weekend.
Feeling as if the semi-finals have come a week early, Cordner is ready to step up again as the Roosters look to make it 12 consecutive wins heading into business end of the season.
"They are the reigning premiers and still a really quality team and obviously with them getting 40-plus points on them last week, it's going to make them even more dangerous this Friday night so we have to be wary of that," Cordner said.
"And we are. We know how good a side they can be when they get it right and they'll be turning up against us."
