When the Roosters struggled for play-making options early in the season, it was Ryan Matterson that came in and showed he was more than capable of stepping up.
After sustaining an injury over the pre-season, Matterson was sidelined until Round 7 of the regular season where he made his impressive debut for the Wyong Roos.
He was called into first grade for the first time in Round 8 against the Dragons on Anzac Day, where he had two try assists and scored a try of his own in a debut to remember.
There were plenty of learning curves in 2016, but there's no doubt that Matterson showed plenty of promise and will continue to improve his game over the coming years.
