After an impressive 2017 campaign that was rewarded with a memorable experience playing for Tonga in the Rugby League World Cup, fan favourite Daniel Tupou caught up with RoostersTV for a long-awaited chat.
Pre-Season with Daniel Tupou
He talked about the much-discussed Tonga campaign, his return to pre-season, the combinations with new squad members and more.
It was an honour to be a part of that and make them (the fans) proud.
Daniel Tupou The Tonga campaign
With a football focused camp in Queenstown this week, Tupou touched on where he's sitting fitness wise ahead of what's bound to be a tough camp to prepare for the pre-season trials.
"The fitness levels are back and I'm pretty happy with how I'm going so far," he said of his pre-season.
It was a tough back end of the season for Tupou, going down with a groin injury against the Sea Eagles in Round 22 which would see him struggle to see game time for the rest of the season.
He discussed his recovery off camera from an injury that is historically difficult to come back from.
"It's one of those weird injuries that seems to hang around.
"I could still kind of feel it when I went into camp for Tonga, but I was right to go right from the first game.
"It felt 100% when I came back, so now I'm just training as hard as I can."
