The NRL & Mark Hughes Foundation invite the rugby league community to join them on the quest to fight Brain Cancer when Beanie for Brain Cancer Round kicks off Round 19 of the NRL Telstra Premiership tonight.
This year’s Beanie for Brain Cancer campaign urges fans to buy an MHF Beanie at selected NRL matches or donate online with the aim of raising $3 million for research.
Innovative ideas and funded researchers working together is the only way better treatments are found for brain cancer patients. Immunotherapy is thought to have the promise for a breakthrough and continues to develop on the research platforms that MHF supporters have helped to build over the past six years.
The NRL has worked with global multimedia messaging app Snapchat to create a unique ‘MHF Beanie lens’.
NRL fans who are unable to attend a match over the weekend, or who simply want to show their support to friends and family, will be able to snap, share and even purchase a Beanie via Snapchat.
Sportsbet will also donate $1000 to the Mark Hughes Foundation for every try scored during Beanie for Brain Cancer Round.
NRL CEO, Todd Greenberg, said: “Beanie for Brain Cancer Round is one of the most important weeks for the community on the rugby league calendar.”
“The collective support shown from the players, coaches and fans at the grounds each year is nothing short of incredible and goes a long way to finding a cure and tackling brain cancer once and for all.”
MHF Founder, Mark Hughes, said: "Myself and the MHF team are as motivated as ever to continue to make this the huge success that it has previously been thanks to the NRL, media and fans who rally behind us each year.”
“We have laid great foundations due to the funds raised for us to accelerate our research and we feel we are in a position now to make some real in roads into finding a break through into this terrible disease.
“Our thoughts are always with Matt Callander and we take great pride in working hand in hand with Anne and the Callander family to ensure we are doing Matt’s legacy proud.”
