Stat Attack | Roosters take speed edge into NRLW decider

Corban McGregor will go into Sunday's NRLW grand final as the fastest player on the paddock with the Roosters holding a slight edge in the speed department over the Broncos, according to Telstra Tracker.

McGregor hit a maximum speed of 30.6km/h in the Roosters' round one win over the Dragons and has held on to the joint overall record alongside Warriors rugby sevens convert Ellia Green for the past two rounds.

The 26-year-old's blistering pace was on display in last week's loss to the Broncos with a 90-metre intercept dash to the line to coincide with her move to the centres due to injuries in the Roosters backline.

The Jillaroos representative could find herself back in the halves at ANZ Stadium on Sunday if Botille Vette-Welsh makes a return from a hamstring injury but for now will focus on a centre match-up with Jayme Fressard.

McGregor's record was almost eclipsed by returning Roosters winger Taleena Simon, who made a triumphant return last week after giving birth to her son Eli last year by recording the highest maximum speed effort for the weekend with 30.2km/h.

Simon's effort was remarkable given she had barely played a game over the past two seasons and told NRL.com of her physical struggles returning from pregnancy prior to her comeback.

McGregor and Simon are joined by Brydie Parker (29.5km/h), who turns 21 on Sunday, as the club's top trio for speed.

Mobile back-rower Sarah Togatuki (27.5km/h) is the only forward included across both club's top fives, while Shanice Parker (27.3km/h) is rated as the next best.

Prior to injury, Roosters star Charlotte Caslick recorded a maximum speed of 28.2km/h before succumbing to back fractures in round two.

For the Broncos, dynamic fullback Tamika Upton holds the mantle as the fastest player at the club after hitting a maximum speed of 30.1km/h, also recorded in round one at GIO Stadium.

Her backline teammates Jayme Fressard (28.8km/h) and Julia Robinson (28.6km/h) are ranked next best with Lauren Brown and Tarryn Aiken (both 27.4km/h) rounding out the top five.

In other round three results, Simon pipped Green (29.2km/h), while Dragons duo Jessica Sergis and Sam Bremner (both 28.8km/h) finished in the top four.

Sergis's maximum figure for the season was slightly down on her efforts in State of Origin last year (29.4km/h) but the 2019 Dally M winner will get another chance to reclaim her status as one of the fastest in the game when the interstate rivalry resumes on November 13.
