Drew Hutchison, Naufahu Whyte and Tuku Hau Tapuha re-commit

The Sydney Roosters are pleased to announce that Drew Hutchison, Naufahu Whyte and Tuku Hau Tapuha have signed extensions with the Club.

25-year-old Hutchison, who joined the Roosters in 2019, has signed a one-year extension for season 2021. He has played seven NRL matches for the Tricolours to date.

Prior to joining the Roosters, Hutchison who made his NRL debut with the St George Illawarra Dragons (Round 18, 2015) spent a year in England with the Leigh Centurions (2018). In 2020, Hutchison captained the Roosters’ NRL Nines team.

Hutchison combines his training commitments with study for a Bachelor of Primary Education.

“Drew’s got a lovely left footed kicking game on him, and has added some terrific depth to our squad,” said Roosters Recruitment Manager, Daniel Anderson.

“It’s been great to watch his development over the last few years and we all look forward to that continuing in 2021,” he added.

Also extending with the Club are youngsters Tuku Hau Tapuha and Naufahu Whyte.

18-year-old Whyte was named the Club’s Junior Representative Player of the Year at the Roosters’ 2020 end of season awards night, the Jack Gibson Medal. He has signed an extension to continue his development with the Roosters until the end of 2022.

Long striding edge forward Hau Tapuha, 19, enters his second season of development with the Roosters in 2021, and has extended his contract through to the end of 2022. In 2019, he represented Queensland’s 18 years team at the National Championships.

“Fahu and Tuku were invited to train within the NRL ‘bubble’ in 2020, and it was terrific to watch their growth as footballers and young men over the challenges of that season,” said Anderson.

“They’re hard workers and have really bought in to what it means to be a Rooster. We’re all looking forward to watching their continued growth over the next few seasons,” he added.
