With Christmas just over a week away, the Sydney Roosters are thrilled to announce that Sam Verrills and Sitili Tupouniua have signed three-year extensions with the Club.
Verrills and Tupouniua have each penned an extension until the end of 2024, with the duo progressing through the Roosters lower grades.
21-year-old Verrills was a member of the Club’s Under 20s side in 2018. He made his NRL debut with the Roosters in Round 6 of the 2019 season and rounded out his rookie year with the opening try in the 2019 Grand Final and a Premiership. He has played 19 NRL games to date.
Verrills, who is continuing his recovery from an ACL injury, was ecstatic to extend his contract with the Tricolours.
“I love being part of the team we have here, and I’m really excited to know that this is where I’ll continue to build my career,” said Verrills.
“The Roosters have taken really good care of me, especially this year with my injury. I’m learning so much from Robbo and the senior boys we have here, and I’m keen to keep working on getting back out there on the field and securing an opportunity to represent this Club that means so much to me,” he added.
23-year-old Tupouniua was a member of the Roosters’ 2014 SG Ball Premiership-winning side and together with the likes of teammates Nat Butcher and Joseph Manu, he was also a member of the Roosters’ 2016 National Youth Competition Premiership-winning side. He made his NRL debut in Round 16 of the 2018 season and has played 37 first grade games to date.
“I love the Roosters and I’m really happy to have re-signed here,” said Tupouniua.
“Robbo, the coaches and the leaders we have here push you to be better every day. We’re a tight group and I’m so proud to be part of this Club,” he added.
Roosters head coach Trent Robinson was looking forward to continuing to work with Verrills and Tupouniua in the coming seasons.
“Sam and Sitili are genuinely good people and I’ve loved watching their development over the last few years,” said Robinson.
“They both have a ‘team first’ mentality and are important members of the squad we have here, so it’s great news to have Sam and Sitili re-commit to the Roosters,” he added.
