"Obviously, when you through an ACL injury, it's pretty damaging," Verrills said.

"You're out for a long time but to do it with Vic (Radley), I don't want to say it was fun because it definitely wasn't fun but there were a lot of enjoyable moments in that nine months we had off.

"We worked so hard with each other and having a partner in the same level, we did on the same night, and had the surgeries on the same day. We rehabbed all together.

"We smashed ourselves in the training and we just had fun along the way. And having someone there along the way, along the journey, along the ride, it really helped. And obviously, the character of Vic, he's a funny person.

"I just thought, look, I've done nine months now. I'm not going to come back early and try and risk things and I'm very happy with the decision I made. Obviously, there are a couple of surgeries along the way, which I didn't plan, but well that's life."
