The Kaiviti Silktails will mark the first anniversary of the passing of their beloved Football Manager Jacquie Shannon with a tribute match.

The winner of the Round 16 match in the Leagues Clubs Australian Ron Massey Cup this Saturday (15 July) between the Silktails and the Ryde-Eastwood Hawks, will be the inaugural winners of the Jacquie Shannon Memorial Bowl.

The match will be played at Churchill Park, Lautoka, in Fiji.

Shannon, 57, died suddenly in her Sydney apartment on 18 June last year. The Silktails had been based at Mascot for the 2021 and 2022 seasons due to the COVID protocols and Australian border restrictions.

The players carried a photo of her onto the ground before kick-off against Mounties in the Ron Massey Cup game last June and sang tributes to her.

On Saturday the Silktails will be led out onto the field by 20-year-old Fiji Secondary Schools back-rower Fenton Williams, who is Shannon’s nephew. He has been a member of the Silktails’ 2023 squad.

All proceeds from the game will go to the newly-created Kaiviti Silktails’ Community Youth Program, where Shannon’s silhouette forms the main feature of the logo design.

The players will wear a commemorative strip featuring the club’s logo with all jerseys to be auctioned - all money raised will go to the youth program.
