The 2024 Jack Gibson Medal Awards

Sydney Roosters Captain James Tedesco has capped off a stellar season by winning the 2024 Jack Gibson Medal for a record 6th time.

2024 has been one to remember for the Roosters Captain, consistently standing tall in the biggest moments and courageously leading by example.  

Whether it was leading the NRL in tackle breaks and running metres, making try-saving tackles or setting up tries, the 31-year-old’s dedication to embracing the challenges and nailing the details has been recognised by his teammates and Coach Trent Robinson. 

A record sixth-time winner of the Club’s most coveted award, Tedesco featured in 25 of the Roosters’ games this season, scoring 17 tries while setting up 24 more, and running 4972 hard-earned run metres per match.  

Sam Walker Awarded Steggles Try of the Year 

Exciting half Sam Walker claimed his second Steggles Try of the Year award for his stunning solo effort which saw him dazzle the Dolphins defence and chip kick to himself in Round 22.  

Walker played an important role in guiding his team to victory in this match, scoring 2 tries, and breaking 5 tackles. For his efforts he was voted the City Index Player of the Match for the round.

The crafty playmaker topped the Roosters in points scored in 2024, scoring 7 tries and kicking 88 goals.

Angus Crichton Awarded Red Rooster Members Player Award

Championed by our Official Membership Partner, Red Rooster – the Members Player of the Year is voted by our Members at the end of the regular NRL Premiership season.

A season full of accolades, including the Wally Lewis Medal winner, Brad Fittler Medal, and Dally M Back Rower of the Year, Angus Crichton truly had a season to remember.

Averaging 123 Running Metres a game, and scoring 11 tries, Gus was seemingly unstoppable!

Lindsay Collins Wins Wellbeing and Education Award

For the very first time, the Sydney Roosters presented a Wellbeing and Education Award. This new award recognises and honours an NRL or NRLW player who exemplifies excellence not just in their rugby league career, but also in their efforts off the field.

The award acknowledges those who show strong engagement in their education and celebrates players who maintain a healthy balance between their sporting commitments and personal development.

Most importantly, this award highlights the forward-thinking players who actively consider life after rugby league, thoughtfully planning their pathways for a future beyond the game. It is also a symbol of our Club's commitment to holistic player wellbeing and growth.

This year’s winner is Lindsay Collins, who this year completed Certificate IV in Finance and Mortgage Broking in record time, which followed last year's achievement Certificate III in Carpentry.

His commitment to his education earned him a spot in the NRL Academic Team of the Year. Alongside his education achievements he has been an advocate for mental health, with a role as ambassador for ‘Mates in Construction’.

Dane King Claims Barry Van Heekeran ‘Mocca’ Award

The Sydney Roosters Club MOCCA Award is named in honour of Barry Van Heekeren, who gave 50 years of service to the Club as a Coach, Player, Manager and Administrator.

The achievement is awarded to a staff member or official who has been a significant contributor to Club life and goes above and beyond at all levels.

This year’s winner was Sydney Roosters Analyst Dane King. Starting as a ball boy in 2013, Dane took up an analyst traineeship in 2017, he would then step up into a full time analyst role in 2018 coinciding with the Club’s 14th premiership.

Dane enthusiastically representing the Club in every aspect of his many roles, including Academy analyst, Junior analyst, NRLW IT support, and Club IT support, amongst many others.

Jake Elliott Receives Chris Sykes Award 

The Chris Sykes Junior Representative Player of the Year was initiated in 1995, and carries the name of the late Chris Sykes, one of the Club's elite junior players from the early 1990’s.

Coming through the Central Coast system, Jake made his way to Sydney and lived in the Academy units. He would go on to play SG Ball, Jersey Flegg, reserves, and would also be named in the extended Squad for the NRL.

We look forward to seeing what Jake will do in the 2025 season!

Toby Rodwell Claims Harry Phipps Rising Star

The Harry Phipps Rising Star award is presented to a player showing a significant physical and mental aptitude to play NRL football.

Chosen by Club coaching staff and the Leadership group, this award has previous winners such as Sam Walker, Victor Radley, and Mitchell Aubusson.

Connor Watson Claims the James Mathews Clubman of the Year 

Voted by Sydney Roosters players and staff, Connor Watson has been awarded the James Mathews Clubman of the Year for his extensive contributions both on and off the field throughout season 2024.

A true team player, Watson contributes to all aspects of Club life and upholds the Club values. Connor plays the game with composure, toughness, and fairness, and is extremely dedicated to his self-improvement.

Always putting the Club first, Watson puts smiles on faces both on and off the field and has a general interest in the wider Club community. He works tirelessly in the Indigenous community with his involvement with the Nonprofit Organization ‘Cultural Choice Association’.

The utility player stepped up in some high-pressure moments throughout the season, and always put his hand up when called upon. He also acted as a mentor to many emerging stars. 

Owen Flaherty wins the Arthur Beetson Medal

The Arthur Beetson Medal for the Jersey Flegg Player of the Year, is named in honour of Arthur Beetson, a true Club Legend.

Points for the award are voted by the players, Head Coach and staff, as well as Club leadership.

Points are awarded to the player who shows significant match performance as well as commitment to the overall team performance.

NSW Cup Player of the Year

Quietly spoken, Taylor Losalu is a man of action, with Coach Brett Morris calling Taylor "One of the hardest workers I've seen".

Playing the most games for the squad in 2024, Taylor is capable of playing big minutes, and regularly ran over 100 metres with the football whilst also having the highest tackle percentage in the team. 

Due to his efforts, Taylor has earned a 6 week preseason training schedule with the NRL Squad.
