All seven Roosters’ junior representative sides were in action on Saturday for the first time in 2025. The Roosters were able to win five and draw a sixth match, with only the Central Coast Harold Matthews team tasting defeat. Here is how each team fared:

S.G. Ball Cup (Men’s Under 19s)

The Sydney Roosters have remained undefeated in the S.G. Ball competition after an exciting 22 all draw with the Parramatta Eels at Mascot Oval on Saturday. Despite the advantage of the wind in the first half the Roosters were unable to dominate the Eels in that half, despite leading 10-0 after five minutes, and the Eels were favourites to win the game at half time after the scores were locked up at 10-10 at the break. When Roosters star fullback Rex Bassingthwaite was injured (and replaced) with twelve minutes to go and then Peter Benjamin Uini was sin binned with six minutes remaining, the Roosters were facing defeat. In the set immediately after Uini was removed from the field, the Eels scored a converted try to lead 22-16 with four minutes remaining. The Roosters had just 12 on the field and were forced to replace both Bassingthwaite and his replacement Eddy Cayless (HIA).

However, a 67th minute try (his second of the game and third of the season) to captain and hooker Jaxson Allen and a fine conversion from Tyson Walker allowed the Roosters to draw level 22-22 with the Eels and the Roosters even had an opportunity to win the game in the final minute but couldn’t quite set up Tyson Walker to kick the winning field goal. The Roosters were down on what they produced in Round One but stayed in the game long enough to force the draw late. Once again, Jaxson Allen starred and in his fourth season as a Rooster he is really showing his talent in season 2025.

The Roosters next play the defending Premiers, but winless in 2025, St George Dragons at Henson Park next Saturday.

Harold Matthews Cup (Men’s Under 17s)

It was conflicting fortunes for the Roosters’ two Harold Matthews Cup sides. The Sydney Roosters, coming off a narrow Round One loss, found form with a convincing 30-6 victory over the Parramatta Eels at Mascot Oval on Saturday. The Eels, who were Round One winners over Newcastle, were no match for a revitalised Roosters who ran in six tries to one. Barnstorming left winger Filipe Fakauho scored a genuine hat trick (three consecutive tries) whilst his centre partner Bastion Armstrong scored one himself in the first half and threw the final pass to Fakauho’s two first half tries. Prop Charleston Te Rore impressed again whilst halves Lachlan Metcalfe and Charlie Webb were a far more effective combination in their second match together.

The Central Coat Roosters, however, off a Round One bye, were no match for the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles, going down 34-10 at Brookvale Oval on Saturday.

Half back and captain Carter Mareko, when the opportunities came his way, had some nice touches.

The Central Coast lads should be far better next week after that initial hit out. They play the St George Dragons at Kogarah next Saturday whilst the Sydney Roosters have a Round Three bye.

Tarsha Gale Cup (Women’s Under 19s)

After a disappointing Round One performance, the Sydney Roosters Indigenous Academy team improved considerably to defeat the Newcastle Knights in a Round Two clash at Mascot Oval. The Knights, who beat the Rabbitohs 42-4 in Round One, struggled to compete with the Roosters, who ran six tries to one.

There were many fine contributors for the Roosters but none better than interchange forward Tyra Dymock, the daughter of former Australian test player, Jim. Manishah Seebeck, a late replacement on the wing for Josie Jeffries, scored two tries for the Roosters.

The Roosters play the St George Dragons next Saturday at Kogarah. The Dragons have won just one game since 2022.

Lisa Fiaola Cup (Women’s Under 17s)

The Central Coast Roosters have kept their opponents to nil for the second successive week to show their premiership credentials through two rounds of the Lisa Fiaola Cup. The Roosters have beaten the Newcastle Knights 26-0 after beating the West Tigers in Round One 28-0. The Knights had beaten the Rabbitohs 48-0 in their Round One match.

The Roosters scored five tries, with right winger Ayva Papalii scoring two of those. Whilst not as dominant as last week, five eighth and captain Mia Vaotuua was a constant threat to the Knights defence.

The undefeated Roosters travel to Kogarah next Saturday to play the St George Dragons, who have won one from two in 2025.

Laurie Daley Cup (Men’s Regional Under 18s)

The Central Coast Roosters have commenced their 2025 Laurie Daley Cup season with a solid 30-26 win over the Northern Tigers at Tamworth on Saturday.

Halves Brok Elliott, brother of Jake, and Isaac Fotu-Moala were amongst the best for the Roosters whilst hooker Ryan Tukapua had some nice moments.

The Roosters are on the road again next Saturday, traveling to Lithgow to play the Western Rams.

Andrew Johns Cup (Men’s Regional Under 16s)

The Central Coast Roosters Andrew Johns Cup team have commenced their quest for a third successive premiership in style, with a thumping 34-12 victory over the Northern Tigers at Tamworth on Saturday, despite trailing the Tigers 12-4 at half time. The two-time defending Premiers ran in six second half tries with NSW Indigenous Under 16s left centre Allan Lardner scoring two of those six, after scoring the Roosters only first half try. He looks a real prospect. With all seventeen making their Central Coast debuts, the Roosters should only get better from here.

The Andrew Johns Cup Roosters also travel next Saturday to Lithgow to play the Western Rams.
