‘The Coop’ is a new program that has been implemented by the Sydney Roosters welfare team, designed to support our younger Academy members as they transition into our system.
With a focus on life skills, personal confidence, and overall wellbeing, the program provides young players with the tools they need to thrive both on and off the field.
Through a series of structured sessions offered after training each Tuesday, The Coop equips players with key skills—such as financial literacy, time management, resilience, and mindset training—it is aimed at assisting with the efforts to build well-rounded individuals prepared for the demands of elite sport.
The program has covered crucial topics including:
- Navigating health insurance, club medical processes, payroll, and superannuation
- Club departmental introductions and career pathway awareness
- Financial literacy and budgeting
- Resilience and understanding your adolescent brain (Guest presenters - Amy Haddadi and Sam Walker)
- Time management strategies
Further sessions planned are focused on topics including:
- Networking and communication
- Your Managers role (Guest presenter – Paul Massey)
- Intro to the Australian tax system and financial responsibilities
- Mindset and personal development
- Gratitude in practice
More than just an education program, The Coop is about setting our Academy players up for long-term success—on the field, in their personal lives, and as part of the Roosters family.
This initiative also plays a vital role in recruitment and retention, as it strengthens players' sense of belonging, ensuring that our players feel supported and confident in their journey. With The Coop, we are investing in their futures and reinforcing the club’s commitment to holistic player development.
